Fade to Black is a 15-image black-and-white zine in the spirit of punk and indie self-publishing, built on two rules that compress it: the walls close in, the light fades to black. Given that it's me, it's birds. The framework is rigid. The meaning belongs entirely to the viewer.
I didn't get a chance to put together a full blog this week because I have another book on the way.
This is a short, 15-image black-and-white zine in the spirit of punk and indie self-publishing, built on two rules that compress it: the walls close in, the light fades to black. Given that it's me, of course it's birds. The form is deliberate. The framework is rigid. The meaning belongs entirely to the viewer.
Lots of things willed this into existence, it really came from a flash of inspiration in one night, my mood, a desire to group work with a set of strict conceptual sequencing rules, and some inspiration from a friend Adam Matthews on one of the core components of the book which is that you have to rotate it for the aspect ratio. (a trick I picked up from his book midday Wednesday which I just got a copy of) That said this zine is a bit of a kitchen sink for me and I'll leave it at that.
It's coming soon, I'm just waiting on a proof copy to make sure the quality is what I require, that should be sometime this week. If that checks out I plan to price it around 24 dollars.
I won't be doing a dig into the book as it's short and that would kinda ruin the thematic and conceptual nature of the book, however enjoy a short teaser video below.
